Brief History of 410 Bank Street
410 Bank Street was founded in 1984 by Janet and Stephen Miller, who transformed a
historic 1840 fire house in Cape May into one of the region’s most distinctive dining
destinations. Their vision was to create a restaurant unlike any other on the Jersey
Shore.
Having spent years working as filmmakers in the Caribbean and Key West, the Millers
envisioned the atmosphere of a hidden tropical garden, the attentive service of a private
yacht, and working with Chef Henry Sing Cheng, a cuisine that blended New Orleans,
Caribbean, French, and coastal American influences.
From its earliest years, 410 Bank Street earned widespread acclaim by national
publications including The New York Times, Zagat, and Fodor’s. New Jersey Monthly
readers voted it the first-place winner among the state’s finest restaurants virtually every
year since its founding. 410 Bank Street quickly became a destination for discerning
diners throughout the Mid-Atlantic region and beyond.
Today, the restaurant continues under the brilliant stewardship of Chef Anthony
Primavera and his wife, Anne, both longtime members of the 410 family. In association
with Stephen, Janet, and Hanna Miller, they continue to build upon the traditions of
culinary innovation, sophisticated service, and unique atmosphere.
More than forty years after opening its doors, 410 Bank Street stands as a testament to
the vision of its founders, the creativity of its chefs, the dedication of its staff, and the
extraordinary loyalty of generations of guests.
